MARIB-SABA
The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Julian Harries, visited several internally displaced person (IDP) camps in Marib Governorate on Wednesday. Accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Marib, Dr. Abdurabbo Miftah, Harries assessed the humanitarian situation and needs of IDPs in the camps.
During his visit, Harries met with IDPs and local officials to discuss the challenges faced by displaced families, including repeated forced displacement due to targeting by Houthi militias and lack of access to basic rights and services.
He also visited the Al-Sweida camp and other nearby camps, as well as the Al-Jafina camp, to assess humanitarian needs and services.
Local authorities have indicated that over 40% of IDP needs are being met by the local authorities, while approximately 60% of basic needs remain uncovered and require humanitarian support.
Harries emphasized the need for increased humanitarian support to address the growing needs of IDPs in Marib.
The UN Coordinator also visited Saba Regional University and several healthcare facilities in Marib, highlighting the importance of continued support for education and healthcare services.
He praised the university's efforts to maintain educational services despite significant challenges.
