MARIB - SABA
A team from the local authority in Marib, headed by Deputy Governor Dr. Abd-Rabu Miftah met Tuesday with the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator "OCHA" in Yemen, Julian Harnis, who is visiting the governorate along with his accompanying delegation.
They discussed the current humanitarian challenges facing the displaced population and the host community in Marib, which has received more than 62% of the displaced individuals in the country.
During the meeting, the local authority in Marib presented the UN party with the humanitarian needs plan for the governorate for the current year, along with the plan for essential emergency needs and reports on the difficult humanitarian and service conditions in each sector and level, due to the decline in humanitarian support, funding issues, and the suspension of many programs and services.
Miftah emphasized the importance of this visit, which is the first for Coordinator Harnis to Marib, to closely observe the complex humanitarian reality in the governorate, which hosts the largest population of displaced individuals in Yemen. He warned of the dangers posed by the declining humanitarian role of OCHA and humanitarian partners, as this could lead to a complete collapse of essential services in vital sectors, which has already begun to show in health and education.
He reiterated the necessity for the United Nations and all international and local organizations to fulfill their responsibilities towards the humanitarian situation of the displaced and the host community, and to take urgent action to contain an imminent humanitarian disaster across various service sectors in the governorate.
He pointed out that the continuous influx of displaced individuals in large numbers to Marib places pressure on the local authority, its executive offices, and service institutions.
