ADEN - SABA
Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awadh bin Mubarak received Monday the Regional Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for the Middle East and North Africa Edward Peigder.

He briefed him on the objectives of his first visit to Yemen and the organization's ongoing programs and projects.

The discussion also covered coordination between the government and the organization in emergency situations and rapid response, in addition to the organization's plans to enhance its interventions in child protection, provision of safe water, education and health, as well as the cash transfer project.

The Prime Minister praised the existing partnership between the government and UNICEF, highlighting its interventions in several vital sectors such as health, education, and child protection.

He emphasized the need to distribute interventions in a manner that aligns with the needs across various regions of Yemen, particularly considering the concentration of displaced persons due to the Houthi militia's aggression in several cities, especially Marib and Sayoun.

Bin Mubarak affirmed UNICEF's pivotal role in Yemen and the necessity of enhancing coordination with ministries and government entities to ensure the effectiveness of interventions.

He pointed out the current priorities in child protection, health and education, as well as the violations committed by the Houthi militia against children.

For his part, the UN official confirmed the organization's commitment to strengthening communication and coordination with the government to identify intervention priorities, highlighting UNICEF's projects and programs in Yemen, future plans and areas of focus.
