Yemen has affirmed that the Iran-backed Houthi militia poses a direct threat to regional peace and security and to international navigation, saying the group is a tool used to undermine Yemen’s sovereignty and stability, disrupt basic services, and obstruct the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.

The Finance Minister Salem bin Braik and Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) Ahmed al-Mobaqi held discussions today, Tuesday, in Washington D.C., with the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Yemen Esther Ruiz on the latest developments in the economic and humanitarian situations.
The discussions, which come within the participation of the Yemeni delegation in the spring meetings of the World Bank (WB) Group and the IMF for the current year 2025, touched on the multiple challenges faced by fiscal, monetary and public financial policies in light of the continued sharp decline in the state's public revenues, due to the cessation of crude oil production and export and the increasing demand for foreign currency to cover the commodity import bill and the subsequent negative effects of this.
The deliberations also focused on the government's handling of the US administration's decision in late January to classify the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia as a "Foreign Terrorist Organization."
