Minister of Water and Environment Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi discussed Sunday with Luisano Calestini, the Deputy Resident Representative of UNICEF in Yemen, and Sahar Hijazi, the office director of the organization in Aden the organization's plans and interventions for the years 2025 and 2026.
The two parties discussed also enhancing cooperation to implement projects in the water and sanitation sectors.
The Minister praised the importance of UNICEF's role in supporting the water and sanitation sectors to enhance capacities in response to the challenges posed by the war.
He reviewed the challenges facing the ministry and its affiliated sectors and institutions, as well as the efforts being made to address various critical situations.
Minister al-Sharjabi emphasized the necessity of securing adequate funding to implement projects that ensure new water sources and address sanitation issues.
For his part, the Deputy Resident Representative of UNICEF in Yemen reaffirmed the organization's commitment to continue supporting the ministry's sectors according to its priorities, aiming to enhance its capacities to respond to all challenges and increase the support provided to ensure improved access to water and sanitation services across all Yemeni regions.
In another meeting, the Minister of Water and Environment discussed today with Keegan Howe, the project manager for the water program development in Aden from the International Committee of the Red Cross, the programs and activities for the water sector development study plan in Aden Governorate.
The two parties addressed the current actions being implemented by the Red Cross regarding the study prepared for Aden Governorate related to diagnosing water and sanitation services and water sources.
This includes the first phase of a study to prepare a master plan project for the temporary capital, Aden, followed by studies on the nature of service needs for the governorate.
