Minister of Water and Environment Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi discussed Sunday with the UNICEF Resident Representative in Yemen Peter Harvey various topics related to the existing partnership between the ministry and the organization and to coordinate efforts to address the decline in funding for water and sanitation projects.
The meeting addressed the challenges the organization faces in implementing projects and explored ways to tackle these issues, as well as discussing the progress made by UNICEF in the water and environment sectors.
Al-Shrajabi reviewed efforts made by the ministry to continue fulfilling its obligations to provide services to citizens, highlighting the overall water situation in the country amidst dwindling water sources and the impact of climate change, which has significantly reduced the available water resources.
He emphasized the government's commitment, represented by the Ministry of Water and Environment, to strengthen partnerships with donors to enhance the water and environment sectors and improve water access for citizens.
For his part, the UNICEF Resident Representative in Yemen affirmed the organization's commitment to continue supporting the water sector according to the priorities set by the ministry, aiming to enhance its capacity to respond to various challenges and enable Yemen to secure water needs for different regions.
