Yemeni Government: Designating Houthi militias terrorist organization significant move to counter their threats

The Yemeni Government described the announcement of the U.S. Department of State that the designation of the Houthi militias as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) put into effects as a significant move to counter the threats pose by the Iranian regime-allied terrorist militias, whose terrorist actions targeted the civilians and infrastructure in Yemen and neighboring countries as well as the commercial ships in the Red Sea and international trade navigation.

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Yemen to the UN Ambassador Abdullah al-Sa'di confirmed the Yemeni government's full support for the American decision as it is an effective measure to reduce the militias' financial resources.

Speaking at the opening session of the International Security Council about the Middle East (Yemen) today, Thursday, al-Sa'di reiterated the government's call on the international community to take similar moves to drain the Houthis' financing and arming sources in order to boost the efforts aiming to re-establish stability and make peace in Yemen.

Al-Sa'di confirmed that the Yemeni government is willing and fully committed to cooperate with the partners in the international community to ensure the enforcement of the decision to serve the Yemeni people's interests, enhance peace and security in the region.

Ambassador al-Sa'di restated that the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government are keenly seeking to deal constructively with the regional and international proposals and efforts as well as the UN-led efforts through its Special envoy to Yemen to reach a political settlement to the Yemeni ordeal and bring this devastating war to its end in accordance with the references of the political solution, most important of all is the International Security Council's resolution 2216.
