Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries Major General Salem al-Soqotri discussed Monday with the Acting CEO of Altwasul Foundation for Humanitarian Development Saqr al-Ja'adi implementation mechanism for the economic empowerment and food security project for small farmers in the Archipelago of Socotra.
The meeting addressed the economic empowerment and food security project for small farmers that the Foundation will implement in the Archipelago of Socotra with support from the Islamic Charitable Organization.
This includes distributing manual plows to farmers, training them, and building their capacity to use and maintain the plows.
Minister al-Socotri emphasized the importance of the project in reducing migration from rural areas to urban cities by targeting the agricultural sector, given that Socotra has fertile agricultural land suitable for growing various crops.
He praised the support provided by the sisterly State of Kuwait to various provinces, stressing the need to shift from traditional projects to projects with sustainable activities.
During the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the ministry and the foundation to enhance cooperation and joint development work.
