Prime Minister receives EU mission, ambassadors in Aden

Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awadh bin Mubarak has welcomed Gabriel Vinales, Head of the European Union Mission, and ambassadors from several EU countries accredited to Yemen at the presidential palace in the temporary capital, Aden.

They meeting held on Wednesday discussed the latest developments in the national situation at various levels and ways to enhance joint efforts to support the government's economic recovery plan, as well as the reallocation of European aid to prioritize key areas.

The meeting, attended by French Ambassador Catherine Corm-Kammoun and Dutch Ambassador Jeannette Seppen, reviewed the European positions supporting the government in facing the current exceptional challenges, particularly in the economic sector and strengthening the national currency, while alleviating the humanitarian suffering exacerbated by the Houthi militia's terrorist attacks on crude oil export facilities and international navigation.

They also discussed supporting the implementation of comprehensive reforms backed by the Presidential Leadership Council, promoting transparency, accountability, and combating corruption, as well as assisting the Yemeni Coast Guard in combating smuggling and securing international navigation.

They addressed the initiation of measures regarding the U.S. decision to reclassify the Houthi militia as a foreign terrorist organization and the governmental measures taken to ensure that humanitarian operations and citizens are not negatively impacted by this decision.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed the European mission in light of their ongoing support for the government and the Yemeni people during this exceptional phase, expressing hopes to double support and redirect it according to priorities in economic, service, humanitarian, and developmental areas.

He emphasized the importance of building on the outcomes of the international meeting to support the Yemeni government held in New York, which sent a strong political message of support for the government, its reforms, vision, and economic recovery plan.

The Prime Minister outlined the challenges facing the government, his vision for addressing them and the strong will to continue steps for implementing reforms, combating corruption, and achieving economic and service stability, as well as the necessary support from Yemen's partners in this regard.

He stressed the anticipated role of friends in the European Union to support the government's economic recovery plan and the five main pathways to confront and address existing challenges.

The Prime Minister was informed by the European delegation about the results of their meetings and visits to Hadhramout, reaffirming their support for the reforms implemented by the government, its economic recovery plan, and the provision of humanitarian services to Yemenis.

The European ambassadors expressed their understanding of the needs raised by the government and their happiness with the success of the international meeting to support the Yemeni government in New York, highlighting the importance of joint efforts to rally international support for the economic recovery plan.
