Lahj Governor discusses expansion humanitarian projects with Intl. organizations

The Governor of Lahj Major General Ahmed Turki discussed on Sunday with a delegation from the French international organization Handicap International, led by Mohamed Imran, ways to expand the scope of joint cooperation in the humanitarian project interventions for the year 2025.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Secretary-General of the Local Council in the governorate Awadh al-Salahi and the directors of the relevant facilities, Governor Turki praised the developmental programs implemented by Handicap International for the residents of Lahij Governorate in health, physical rehabilitation for mobility impairments, psychological support, and mine risk awareness, which effectively contribute to alleviating the daily suffering of the governorate's citizens.

Governor Turki emphasized the local authority's commitment to supporting the organization's work and activities and providing all suitable working environments.

He looks forward to the establishment of a prosthetics center by the organization and its contribution to equipping the dialysis center at Ibn Khaldun General Hospital in al-Hawta City, directing the relevant government agencies in the governorate to allocate a child-friendly space for the organization to create a children's amusement park and play area.

In a related context, the Governor of Lahj also discussed today with the representative of the Norwegian Refugee Council office in Aden Sahar al-Najjar the council's work plan for the governorate for the year 2025.

The governor directed that a suitable alternative site be identified for the current location of the al-Mushkafah camp in the Tuban District as part of improving humanitarian services for the camp's residents, whose number is 387 displaced families.

Additionally, Governor Turki appreciated during his meeting today the efforts of the Generation Without Qat Organization for Awareness and Development in recently executing the project for the modern building of the Agricultural and Veterinary Guidance Center in Sabr City, Tuban district.

The project is a part of the project to enhance institutional and economic resilience in Yemen (SIRY), implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with funding from the European Union.
