Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Nizar Basuhaib discussed Wednesday with the Director of the World Food Program office in Aden Leila Ahadi the plan for distributing food aid for the 2024 distribution cycle and the procedures for including deserving cases for cash and food assistance.
The meeting reviewed the distribution report from the previous third cycle, the difficulties faced by the program during distribution, and the mechanism for joint coordination to address grievances regarding the reduced lists of beneficiaries and to verify them, along with adding new deserving cases.
The discussion also included the commencement of the fourth distribution cycle.
Dr. Basuhaib pointed out that the distribution of cash assistance and the reduction of beneficiaries came at a critical time due to the current economic and living conditions that citizens are suffering from.
He emphasized the need to reconsider the submitted grievances to confirm the status of cases that were removed from the lists of cash assistance beneficiaries and to enhance coordination with local authorities in the governorates to help identify deserving cases.
For her part, the Director of the World Food Program office in Aden confirmed that the program is making every effort to include the largest possible number of targeted cases based on available resources, and to establish a verification mechanism for cases that were removed from the targeted lists.
She noted that communication with all parties involved in the cash and food assistance project continues to keep them informed of all steps that will be taken after completing the procedures related to the World Food Program.
In another meeting, the Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation discussed various topics related to supporting UNOPS's future projects in Yemen in service and development sectors with Khaled Salem, the funding officer from the UNOPS office.
They discussed enhancing joint coordination between the two sides to determine the needs for projects and interventions based on urgent priorities.
