BAKU - SABA
Minister of Water and Environment Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi participated Wednesday in a special session to discuss the Climate and Development Report for Yemen and Djibouti, organized by the World Bank on the sidelines of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The report addresses how to integrate climate action into development strategies and adapt to climate fluctuations.
It discusses the relationship between climate, conflict, and development, focusing on water security, food security resilience, public health, energy security, and coastal area protection.
Minister al-Sharjabi emphasized that the Climate and Development Report represents a significant contribution for Yemen in addressing climate change and will facilitate access to various climate financing options amid the structural and technical fragility faced by institutions due to the war.
He noted that the report aligns closely with Yemen's urgent priorities, particularly in the areas of water and food security, enhancing livelihoods, and promoting area-based climate adaptation approaches.
He highlighted the importance of the role of Yemen's development partners in providing technological and technical assistance and building capacities.
The launch of the Climate and Development Country Report for Yemen and Djibouti is scheduled for early December in the temporary capital, Aden.
