WASHINGTON - SABA
The Governor of the Central Bank Ahmed Ghaleb along with Finance Minister Salem bin Bureik discussed Thursday with Dr. Jihad Azour, the Head of the Middle East and Central Asia Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) emergency support programs that could be provided to Yemen.
The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 2024 annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank in Washington, D.C., reviewed the political and economic developments and their impact on living conditions in Yemen amidst ongoing regional events and conflicts, including increasing food insecurity, a shortage of humanitarian aid, and a lack of foreign currency resources.
In another meeting, the Central Bank Governor, along with Planning and International Cooperation Minister Dr. Wa'id Batheeb discussed with the IMF's statistics management team the latest updates on public debt statistics for Yemen.
They reviewed the progress made by the IMF team and the joint committee from the Central Bank, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Planning in compiling data.
The IMF team expressed satisfaction with the achievements made, recommending the completion of missing data to build a public debt database, which could help Yemen secure emergency funding from the Fund.
