WASHINGTON - SABA
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Wa'ed Badhib contributed today, Thursday, to a high-level meeting on the International Development Association (IDA21) on "Achieving Results in Times of Crisis", held at the World Bank (WB) headquarters in Washington.
Dr. Badhib underlined IDA's pivotal role as a development partner for more than 60 years, noting the success of IDA's innovative approach in supporting Yemen during economic and humanitarian crises, especially through the umbrella of fragility, conflict and violence.
The Minister of Planning pointed out that the Yemeni economy witnessed a 54% decline in real GDP per capita between 2015 and 2023, adding that despite these challenges, the Foundation's interventions played a key role in reviving economic activities and providing basic services, employment opportunities and livelihoods.
He underscored the importance of the Foundation's role in promoting women's participation in new sectors such as solar energy, waste management, and the role of the private sector in economic growth, poverty reduction and social stability.
Dr. Badhib called for simplifying IDA21 procedures to reduce administrative costs and ensure the sustainable implementation of the policy package in line with national development priorities.
