Minister al-Suqotri discusses ways to enhance cooperation with German Cooperation management

Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, Major General Salem al-Suqotri held a virtual meeting with Marcela Maziarik, the Head of International Cooperation Management at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Yemen o discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the agriculture and fisheries sectors.

The meeting addressed the progress of several infrastructure projects in the agriculture and fisheries sectors funded by the German government and the German Development Bank, including the rehabilitation and development project of the fishing port in the capital, Aden, at a cost of 35 million dollars, which is being implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
It also covered the rehabilitation projects for fish landing centers and support for fishermen in several provinces, which are being carried out by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), which has had a tangible developmental impact on the fisheries sector.

During the meeting, Minister al-Suqotri presented the strategic plans prepared by the ministry, which included a map of agricultural and fishery needs aimed at enhancing food security for citizens.

He highlighted the efforts being made to implement those needs in partnership with donor agencies, primarily the Federal Republic of Germany.

Al-Suqotri pointed out the urgent need for further support for the agriculture and fisheries sectors to alleviate the severe damage to their infrastructure caused by the war ignited by the Houthi terrorist militia, as well as by climate change and the hurricanes that struck the provinces of Al-Mahra, Hadhramout, Shabwa, and Socotra.

He praised the support provided by the German government and the German Development Bank in various developmental fields, especially in agriculture and fisheries, which has contributed to their advancement.

For her part, the German official confirmed her country’s desire to implement more interventions aimed at alleviating the food crisis affecting the people of Yemen and mitigating the negative repercussions faced by fishermen and farmers in our country.
