A legal team discussed with the Officer of the File of Yemen, Middle East and North Africa in the UN High Commission for Human Rights Nadine Sahouri the campaign of arrests and abductions carried out by the Houthi terrorist militias against UN employees and foreign embassy workers in Sana'a.
The team reviewed also arrest of several politicians, journalists, and activists in areas under the militia's control.
The team, affiliated with the Humanitarian Rights Association in Switzerland, addressed the arbitrary actions of the Houthi militias that violate Yemeni law in the arrest process and the baseless charges of espionage and collaboration with foreign organizations and states, which have put detainees at risk of receiving the harshest penalties.
The legal team also provided the UN office with copies of the list of names of workers and employees who have been arrested since June 7, along with copies of statements and condemnations from civil society and Yemeni human rights organizations, demanding the swift disclosure of their fate and their release.
The team emphasized the necessity for the international community to exert pressure on the Houthi militias to release the abducted UN personnel and to halt the ongoing campaigns of arrests targeting many activists, journalists, lawyers, and citizens in several provinces under Houthi control.
