Minister of Water and Environment Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi presided over Wednesday a meeting, discussing the implementation plan for the resilient and sustainable livelihoods project in rural Yemen, specifically in the Socotra, Hawf, and Utmah reserves.

This project will be executed by the ministry in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, and the General Authority for Environmental Protection, in partnership with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and supported by the Global Environment Facility.

The meeting included project technical director Dr. Abduraqeeb al-Akoushi and Director of the Ministry's Climate Change Unit Dr. Abdulwahid Arman, discussing the mechanisms and methods for preparing a project matrix and integrated activities in the fields of agriculture, fishing, and livestock.

The program for Utmah reserve primarily focuses on agriculture, aiming to transition from cultivating Qat to coffee.

Meanwhile, the programs for Socotra and Hawf reserves emphasize the fishing sector by shifting from open overfishing to regulated fishing, and in livestock, from open grazing to sustainable grazing, to ensure the expansion of natural green areas in the reserves and other agricultural activities and projects.

Minister al-Sharjabi highlighted the ministry's commitment to preserve natural reserves and protecting their vegetation cover from changes caused by natural disasters and human factors.

He highlighted the importance of the project in maintaining natural resources, which are vital for environmental protection and contributing to effective solutions for various issues that disrupt nature and ecological balance.

Minister al-Sharjabi emphasized the necessity of finalizing all procedures and details related to the project plan within this week to begin its implementation on the ground as soon as possible.

In another context, the Minister of Water inspected the sewage water transfer project extending from Abdulqawi Roundabout to the main sewage station in Mansoura, Aden, with a cost of $2,015,000 funded by the World Bank through the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

Minister al-Sharjabi, along with the General Director of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation in Aden, Engineer Mohammad Bakhubairah, reviewed the project's progress, which is managed and directly supervised by the Urban Water and Sanitation Project of the Ministry of Water and Environment.

The project includes the construction of a new transfer line consisting of 800 mm diameter GRP pipes, 2,150 meters long, with depths ranging from 3 to 6 meters, as well as the connection between the old and new networks, and the establishment of 37 main reinforced concrete inspection chambers.
