Taiz Governor discusses with WFP relief interventions
[05/09/2024 04:03]

TAIZ - SABA
Governor of Taiz Nabil Shamsan met Thursday with representatives of the World Food Program (WFP) discussing with them humanitarian interventions in the governorate and ways to enhance the program's role in covering the areas and populations most in need.

The meeting addressed the current funding shortages and the need to develop solutions and remedies in coordination with local authorities, the government, and relevant entities.

It emphasized communication with the program to ensure the continuation and expansion of interventions in the neediest governorates and regions, taking into account the specific conditions and needs of the population for humanitarian assistance.

Governor Shamsan stressed the importance of continuing to provide relief to affected families in the governorate due to the ongoing war and blockade, the high population density, and the increasing number of people in need of food assistance.

He underscored the necessity for the program to encompass the areas most in need of food assistance that were not covered previously since the onset of the war. He highlighted the importance of prior coordination with local authorities and the Planning and International Cooperation Office in the governorate for any interventions, projects, workshops, or matters related to interventions and plans in the governorate.

For his part, the director of the WFP office in the governorate, Shingaria Shambwanda, presented during a joint meeting with the program's team in the governorate—via video conferencing—various relevant entities from the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the Central Statistical Organization, and the WFP office in Aden.

He reviewed the program's interventions in the governorate since 2018 in coordination with the relevant authorities, as well as its efforts in the city districts and several coastal areas, according to the program's plan for expansion to cover the most needy and poorest populations.

He pointed out to the updating of target data conducted in 2023, commending the local authority's efforts in facilitating the program's work in the governorate.
