Deputy Governor of Marib Governorate and Chairman of the Emergency Committee Dr. Abd-Rabu Miftah has called on all local, regional and international partner organizations to intervene and respond urgently to meet the needs of those impacted by the natural disasters that the governorate has been experiencing for several years.

During an extraordinary meeting of the Emergency Committee, attended by representatives of UN, regional and international humanitarian organizations, Deputy Governor Miftah emphasized that the thunderstorms and strong winds that have hit Marib since Sunday morning have so far resulted in the death of eight people and the injury of 36 others, including women, most of whom are displaced persons.

Miftah reviewed the damage and losses caused by the rains and floods in the camps of the displaced and in the service sectors, especially the electricity sector, with expectations that the governorate will continue to be affected by the weather depression and the continuation of thunderstorms in the coming days.

He pointed to the large gap between the limited interventions of partners and the level of existing needs for more than 7,300 families affected by the rains and thunderstorms.

The Deputy Governor of Marib called on all citizens living in valley bottoms or near flood channels to move away from them to protect their lives and property, noting that the successive warnings from the meteorological centers indicate the continued impact of the weather depression on Marib Governorate.

For their part, representatives of UN and international organizations presented their urgent plans to intervene in this natural disaster and provide all available forms of assistance, in coordination with the local authority, the Executive Unit for the Management of Displacement Camps and the relevant offices.

They confirmed their readiness to communicate with their partners and seek funding for the largest possible amount of food and shelter assistance necessary to aid the affected.
