Shabwa governor calls for international support to contain African migrants influx

SHABWA - SABA
Governor of Shabwa governorate Awad Iben al-Wazir called on the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other UN organizations to help the governorate and support the efforts of its local authorities to contain the ongoing influx of illegally African migrants on a daily basis.

He voiced his appeal during his discussions today, Monday, with health sector projects officer at the IOM Dr. Angela al-Waeli.
The conversations touched upon joint coordination and cooperation between the local authority and the IOM and the organization's humanitarian interventions, programs and life-saving activities.

The governor praised the IOM's interest in the humanitarian aspects of African migrants, citing the challenges facing local authority in Shabwa due to the ongoing African migrants influx to the governorate.
He stressed that it is very necessary to provide full-service shelter camps and organize the process of hosting refugees.
Dr. al-Waeli cited the IOM's humanitarian interventions programs in Shabwa, showing understanding to the pressing need to further interventions in the coming period.
