Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awadh bin Mubarak headed Sunday a government meeting for discussing challenges facing decline of international supply to health sector and needed imminent interventions for the sustainability of healthcare and to avoid any potential disaster.
The meeting listened to a report presented by Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Qasem Buhaibeh on swift response on funding reduction provided by partners of health sector and suggested alternatives, making it clear that this international support decrease will leave disastrous impact on health sector and will affect lives of millions of citizens.
This supply decrease will lead to closure of more than thousand health facility, will threaten lives of 500 thousand women, deprive 600 thousand children from vaccination services and healthcare and will weaken ability on facing many pandemics, according to the report.
The report highlighted importance of all partners' understanding continuity of supporting health sector and improving services to citizens.
The meeting addressed several suggested alternatives and needed coordination with Yemen's partners of international organizations to fill health sector's supply gap and integrative roles on government levels to ensure sustainability of providing healthcare.
Prime Minister directed forming a committee from ministers of planning and international cooperation, health, water and environment and the executive apparatus for absorbing donor pledges to prepare a strategic plan to evaluate needs of health sector, needed international interventions plan and to define tasks of implementation and duration.
The meeting called upon international and regional partners to renew their vital and continuous support to health services to overcome current condition and to avoid potential humanitarian disaster.
