Minister al-Sharjabi discusses revenue development, challenges in water, sanitation sector

Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi discussed Wednesday with the general directors of water and sanitation institutions in the liberated governorates the situation of the institutions and the ways to develop the collected water revenues.

Minister al-Sharjabi listened from the general directors of the institutions to an explanation about the progress of work, the plans in place to address the shortcomings in the activities, and the follow-up of revenue collection, debts, and arrears from public and private entities.

He reviewed reports on how to address the challenges of random connections, losses, and tariffs, the mechanism for distributing bills to subscribers and their payment, and ways to improve the services provided to citizens.

The Minister emphasized keenness to develop the resources of the institutions to overcome the challenges facing this vital sector, and to fulfill the obligations related to operating expenses and salaries.

He stressed the need to improve performance and strengthen the procedures to address the difficulties facing the work, especially in the current stage the country is going through.

Engineer al-Sharjabi directed the need to implement a plan for the distribution and follow-up of revenue collection for water and sanitation institutions.

He highlighted the need to redouble efforts, enhance performance, and work as one team to improve the level of work in the institutions affiliated with the Ministry.

Minister al-Sharjabi also emphasized the importance of developing a strategy for the possible alternatives to use diesel fuel and address the problems according to the available resources in full coordination with the local authorities.
