Transport Ministry: Seizure of plane at Sana'a Airport, blatant attack by Houthi terrorist militia
[26/06/2024 07:54]
ADEN-SABA
the Ministry of Transport condemned the blatant attack carried out by the terrorist Houthi militias yesterday, Tuesday, on the aircraft of the Yemeni Airlines Company and their seizure at Sana'a Airport with their technical crews.

A statement issued by the Ministry explained that the terrorist militias detained three aircraft yesterday, Tuesday, adding to a fourth aircraft that had been detained for about a month, as those planes were transporting pilgrims to Mecca from King Abdulaziz International Airport in the city of Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to Sana'a Airport.

The statement pointed out that the company contributed to the operation of more than 100 flights to transport 8,000 pilgrims to and from the holy sites, since the start of this year's Hajj season, based on the directives of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, and the Prime Minister, and in coordination with the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Endowments and Guidance, as they all believe that transporting pilgrims to perform the Hajj rituals is a religious, humanitarian and sacred moral issue.

It noted that more than 1,300 pilgrims are still stranded at King Abdulaziz International Airport and the holy sites.

The statement affirmed that the violations practiced by the Houthi terrorist militias against the national carrier are still ongoing since the freezing of the company's financial accounts in early March 2023, which exceeded $100 million, pointing to the insistence of the militias to monopolize a large part of the revenues without justification, reneging on all obligations and operating expenses of a commercial company that has been serving the Yemeni community since its establishment, in accordance with the special protocol between the Republic of Yemen and the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Ministry of Transport stressed its rejection of these illegal measures, which are inconsistent with all international conventions and treaties related to civil aviation and air transport.

It called on the United Nations and the international community to intervene urgently to release the Yemeni Airlines aircraft detained at Sana'a Airport and their accounts, and to assist the company in taking all measures to protect its assets and financial revenues to ensure the continuity of operations and the enhancement and development of its fleet.
