Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Sovereign and Local Resources, Maj. Gen. Aidaroos al-Zubaidi presided over an extraordinary Cabinet meeting here today.

Discussions centered on the matrix of problems associated with the daily suffering of the public, topped by the deficit in power generation, the possible urgent solutions to ensure a stabile power supply in the present, and the strategic plans that can be initiated to generate power from less expensive alternative sources, and reduce dependence on diesel-fueled stations, which costs the state treasury huge amounts of money.

The meeting also addressed the national currency's devaluation problem, the problem's main causes, especially the state’s diminished hard currency revenues in the wake of the stoppage of oil and gas exportation due to the terrorist Houthi militia’s attacks on export ports in Hadhramaut and Shabwa.

In this respect, the meeting reviewed the urgent work plan of the Oil and Minerals ministry to operate the Aden refineries and bring them back to service, to resume refining crude and make sure the local market's and power generation plants' needs are met, and to reduce the significant drain of hard currency in importing oil products.
