ADEN-SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Maj. General Aidarous al-Zubaidi received today Monday, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General to Yemen Hans Grundberg and his Deputy Serhd Ftah.

General al-Zubaidi welcomed Mr. Grundberg's visit to the temporary capital Aden which comes amid extremely difficult economic hardships the country has been experiencing, greatly appreciating the great efforts have been made by Mr. Grundberg and his team over the previous period to make arrangements to launch a political process that brings the war to its end and establish a comprehensive, fair and sustainable peace.

Mr. Grundberg detailed Maj. General al-Zubaidi on the latest developments relating to the political process, peace efforts, the road map and the files he is working on along with his advisors and team, first of all is the economic file, opening the roads, exchange prisoners.

In this context, al-Zubaidi reaffirmed the PLIC's stance in support of the peace efforts, the UN-led good offices and regional efforts to get all issues addressed on top of all the southern cause.

Maj. General al-Zubaidi stressed that it is very important to be there a parallel stance from the other party to the PLC's stance in support of the peace option. He noted that talking about a political process and peace agreement amid ongoing Houthi militias' escalation in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb is unrealistic and of no point.

Al-Zubaidi pointed out to the Houthis' persistent escalation in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb, the unilateral financial measures by the Houthi militias have further exacerbated the economic hardships and humanitarian suffering in the country, it also have become a card the Houthi militias is trying to use to pressure the international community to achieve political gains.

He asserted that peace process has international rules and criteria that all parties should comply with.

In this context, he noted that any agreement or cease-fire or measures to open the roads must be done under the supervision and monitoring by committee form the UN to ensure the implementation and success of that.

The UN's Envoy stated that all ongoing efforts are intended to maintain what has been realized in the previous period and to stop the unilateral steps by the Houthi Group and the escalatory measures that may bring the situations in the country into a disastrous status worse than what they are today.

Mr. Grundberg stated that the recent escalation by Houthi Group in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb, the instability in the region and the engagement of new parties in Yemeni crisis line, all have negatively impacted the understandings that have been reached during the previous meetings and added further complexity to the ongoing efforts to reach an agreement currently.

The UN's Envoy noted that despite the complexities which occurred within the course of the ongoing efforts to resolve the Yemeni crisis, hopes are still existing to reach an agreement about all significant files and issues, first of all is the southern cause.
