Sport Minister discusses with UNICEF officials youth plans, programs

Minister of Youth and Sports, Naif Saleh al-Bakri discussed on Tuesday with the Director of the UNICEF office in Aden Shafiq al-Rahman and the organization's international consultant for youth and adolescents Sarah Shoman the required interventions to support the programs and plans of the "Youth" and "Women" sectors and designing specific programs to them.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Deputy Minister of Youth Dr. Munir Mani' Lama', Minister al-Bakri praised the efforts exerted by UNICEF in our country and its interventions in the areas of health, education, environment, and child protection programs. He confirmed the ministry's readiness to establish a distinguished and fruitful relationship with the organization to implement joint programs, especially those related to youth and women.

"We, in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, are fully prepared to create a collaborative work framework with the organization in the fields of youth, sports, and women, and to develop quality programs that benefit youth and girls, enhance their participation, and develop their capacities, especially young people, by helping them identify their aspirations and harnessing their potential," he said.

For his part, Shafiq affirmed his organization's interest in "all programs and projects that concern youth and women, and supporting their useful and purposeful programs."

He reviewed the organization's interventions in many fields, especially in the field of healthcare, vaccination provision, malnutrition programs, child protection, school rehabilitation, support for exams, as well as environmental work in urban and rural areas.

He also pointed out that the organization has provided more than 65 million dollars to support those programs.

In the same context, the organization's consultant Sarah Shoman explained that "the organization is in the process of designing a program for youth and adolescents in Yemen, through which it engages with a number of government entities working with young people, and meets with international and local non-governmental organizations to develop a youth-specific strategy."

She noted that today's meeting at the Ministry of Youth and Sports falls within this framework.
