[29/02/2024 06:59]

MARIB - SABA
Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Qasem Buhaybeh revealed the ministry's plan to prepare specialized scientific courses in the field of artificial limb manufacturing for amputees, physical therapy, and psychological support.

These plans will be offered in healthcare institutes and postgraduate studies, considering the significant need for this specialization in rehabilitating and integrating amputees into society as productive and active individuals.

During the opening of the first conference on industrial prosthesis and physical therapy here on Thursday, with wide participation from academics and specialized doctors from various provinces, Minister Buhaybeh highlighted the large number of amputees in Yemen and their continuous increase due to the extensive landmines planted by the Houthi terrorist militia, which aims to kill and harm civilians.

He emphasized that the Houthi militia's terrorist agenda, characterized by a wave of terrorism, is the biggest disaster Yemen has faced after the collapse of the Marib Dam in the past. He pointed out the suffering of the Yemeni people due to the presence of Houthi Landmines in most provinces, resulting in a growing number of individuals losing their limbs.

For their part, Dr. Mohammed Hamoud al-Qadasi, President of the Saba Region University, and Dr. Abd-Rabu Miftah, Deputy Governor of Marib, stated that the conference on industrial prosthesis and physical therapy represents a qualitative development that reflects the governorate's leadership's commitment to promoting various educational and service institutions and achieving development in various fields.

They also highlighted that the conference provides an opportunity to showcase knowledge and updates, exchange experiences, and shed light on the importance of continuing to provide services to victims of wars, giving them the attention and care they deserve, and rehabilitating them to resume their normal lives.

Following the conference, the Minister of Public Health and Population inspected the work progress at the Artificial Limb Center. He received a briefing from Dr. Mohammed Deeb Darbaa, the Regional Director of the International Association for the Care of War Victims and Disasters, about the quality of healthcare services provided by the center.

The Minister also learned about other centers supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, including the number of visitors, the number of sessions for amputees, and the production and distribution of prosthetic limbs.

The Minister commended the efforts of the center's staff and the International Association for their work, as well as the generous support provided by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and Humanitarian Works. He emphasized that the war has left a large number of individuals in need of attention and care.
