Cargo Ship Rubymar's Crisis Cell held its meeting with international experts

The Crisis Management Cell of the Rubymar cargo ship, chaired by the Minister of Water and Environment, the Chairman of the Committee, Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi, held an extensive meeting today via video conferencing technology.

The meeting included representatives from the United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Environment Program, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Amersja Environmental Emergency Center in Ghardaqah, and a number of representatives from international organizations, international experts, and specialists in the field of sunken ships and oil leakage response in the seas.

The meeting was attended by Acting President of the General Authority for Environmental Protection Engineer Faisal al-Thaalbi, Deputy Chairman of the General Authority for Maritime Affairs, Captain Yaslem Mubarak, Deputy Head of the Coastal Guard Service, Colonel Mus'ad Ali Saad, Ship Supervisor at Aden Refineries, Captain Mohammed al-Maqtari, and a number of specialists.

The meeting discussed the latest developments regarding the cargo ship, which was targeted by the Houthi terrorist militia off the Yemeni shores in the Red Sea.

The ship is currently floating 16 nautical miles away from the Port of Mokha. The meeting also addressed the efforts are being made to find a sound environmental mechanism to rescue the ship, which is at risk of sinking.

Minister al-Sharjabi provided a summary of the incident involving the targeting of the Rubymar ship, which carries thousands of tons of inorganic fertilizers and ship fuel.

The sinking of the ship would lead to a wide-scale environmental disaster, causing significant damage to the marine environment and affecting hundreds of thousands of Yemeni communities that rely on the resources of the marine environment. It could also result in damage to desalination plants along the Yemeni coast.

Minister al-Sharjabi reiterated the seriousness of the current situation of the ship, calling on all international entities to urgently intervene and help find solutions to save the ship and the Yemeni environment from an imminent environmental catastrophe.

The Representatives of international organizations and experts discussed the expected scenarios resulting from the sinking of the ship and the necessary measures to be taken to rescue the vessel.
