Yemen's new Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ahmed bin Mubarak chaired here today the first cabinet meeting since his appointment as head of the government.
Discussions were centered on mechanisms for implementing the directives of the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi regarding the government’s political, economic, service and humanitarian priorities in the coming period. The premier directed the ministries and competent authorities to transform the directives of President al-Alimi into timetabled executive matrices to enhance the confidence of the public and the regional and international community in public institutions.
The premier stressed that activating accountability and anti-corruption mechanisms will be the government's key point of focus and performance at this stage, in addition to implementing a policy of rationalizing spending and focusing on improving services and alleviating the suffering of citizens, pointing out that the government will do its utmost to complete restoring state institutions, end the coup and confront existing challenges in various fields.
The Prime Minister stressed the priority of addressing the economic issues and living conditions, with a focus on fulfilling the inevitable obligations in regularly paying employees’ salaries, improving basic services, and giving Aden its due attention that befits its status as the country’s temporary capital.
Deliberations went over developments in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden especially the attacks by the terrorist Houthi militia against commercial ships and international shipping lanes and the impact of that on the humanitarian and economic situation and exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis.
