Yemen minister calls for international conference to help Yemen save antiquities

Yemen's Minister of Information Muammar Al-Eryani has called for holding an international conference to preserve and protect Yemeni antiquities, and to working to mobilize the necessary financial and technical resources to help Yemen protect and maintain the antiquities it abounds, to protect them from damage and prevent them from falling into the hands of terrorist and criminal organizations.

Addressing a virtual symposium hosted by the National Museum of Asian Arts (Smithsonian) in Washington, DC, Al-Eryani stressed that Yemen possesses a rich cultural heritage and material and intangible diversity, from which multiple civilizations emerged and evidence of which is still present to this day.

He pointed out that there are historical cities that UNESCO has approved on the Human Heritage List (Sanaa, Shibam Hadhramaut, Zabid, the archipelago. Socotra, Marib), and many other archaeological sites, historical buildings and palaces, places of worship, and hundreds of historical forts and castles, not to mention the diverse and rich intangible heritage in its fields.
