Under-Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fishery Eng. Mohammed Allan held discussions today, Thursday, in the transitional capital Aden, with a delegation from United Nations Environmental Organization (UNEO) headed by Regional Coordinator Sabeen Saqr and Director of Programs of the UNEO in Yemen Hassan Berto over the needed projects in agricultural and fishery sectors.
The discussions touched upon the Ministry's plans and projects aimed to reduce damages which are frequently caused by climate changes in agricultural and fishery sectors.
The Ministry's proposals include establishing early warning centers, constructing dams and water barriers, waves breakers and repair the fishery unloading centers which affected by the climate changes' consequences, namely recent cyclones.
The conversations also explored the possibility of restoring the Ministry's bodies and institutions which are specialized in preserving the marine environment, studying marine pollution, determining fish stocks and studying soil and groundwater pollutants as well as measuring the residual effect of agricultural pesticides.
Eng. Allan cited the damages that Yemeni farmers and fishermen suffered due to climate changes and cyclones which struck several Yemeni regions recently.
The UN official underlined the importance of further boosting coordination between the Ministry and the UNEO in the upcoming stage.
