U.S. imposes sanctions on a person, Exchanges Firms transfer Iranian funds to terrorist Houthi militias
[28/12/2023 09:25]
WASHINGTON-SABA
The United States announced the imposition of sanctions on a network consisting of a Yemeni person and three entities based in Yemen and Turkey responsible for facilitating the flow of Iranian funding to the terrorist Houthi militias and their destabilizing activities.

The US Treasury Department said in a press statement "its Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has included on its sanctions list Nabil al-Hadath and three exchange houses in Yemen and Turkey."

The Department added, " These persons have facilitated the transfer of millions of dollars to the Houthis at the direction of U.S.-designated Sa’id al-Jamal, who is affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF).

The Treasury Department noted that Sa'id al-Jamal's network relies on a group of exchange offices spread throughout the Middle East to facilitate the movement of Iranian funds to financial companies allied with the (Houthi) militia in Yemen... explaining that the transfer of this money is ultimately made to the (Houthi) militia or Its subsidiaries are located throughout the region.

Brian Nelson, Treasury undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, said Thursday's action "underscores our resolve to restrict the illicit flow of funds to the Houthis, who continue to conduct dangerous attacks on international shipping and risk further destabilizing the region."

Nelson stressed that the U.S. and its allies will continue to target the key facilitation networks that enable the destabilizing activities of the Houthis and their backers in Iran.
