Al-Sharjabi seeks Dutch support for water, environment sectors

Minister of Water and Environment Eng. Tawfiq al-Sharjabi held discussions today, Sunday, here in Dubai, with Deputy Director General for International Cooperation at Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs Stephen Collett over Dutch's support for the water and environment sectors in Yemen.

Al-Sharjabi voiced deep thanks and gratitude to the government and people of the Royal Netherlands for their substantial and constant support to the Yemeni people in the water and environment sectors throughout several decades.

The Minister cited the challenges Yemen faced by due to the climate changes, highlighted the need for international support to help the Yemeni government to handle the climate changes effects that have badly affected Yemen.

The two sides inked an agreement to finance capacity building of the climate change unit in the ministry with the aim of improving its technical capacities in the fields of adaptation, mitigation and reporting.

The Royal Netherlands' Climate Envoy Prince Jaine de Bourbon contributed to the discussions.

Al-Sharjabi sought for Dutch support for the Yemeni government to access Climate finance from the operational entities of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change such as the Global Environment Facility, the Green Climate Fund, and the Adaptation Fund.
