Prime Minister Dr. Ma'een Abdulmalik attended today, Tuesday, the preliminary session of the high-profile roundtable discussions between the Yemeni government and the UN's agencies in the temporary capital Aden.
He gave a keynote speech in which he highlighted the Yemeni people's need to shift from reliance on the relief aid to the developmental action as sustainable development is key factor to get rid the world's worst humanitarian crisis due to the terrorist Houthi militia-triggered war.
Dr. Ma'een cited the devastating impacts of the war waged by Houthi militia since its coup against the legitimate government in 2014.
"Since the Houthi militia's coup Yemen has lost half of its gross domestic income and economic growth rates declined to the bottom" he said, adding that Houthi militias' terrorist attacks on oil exports seaports have further exacerbated the economic challenges as Yemen missed some 51 percent of the public revenues compared with the previous year.
The outgoing Resident Representative of the UN in Yemen, Coordinator of the Humanitarian Affairs David Gressly underscored the importance of the joint collaboration between the Yemeni government and the UN, underlining the need to continue to work with the partners and donors to support Yemen in the humanitarian, relief and development fields.
The two-day round table discussions covered several topics relating to the humanitarian and developments projects and interventions, most important challenges faced in 2023 and joint cooperation between the Yemeni government and the UN in 2024.
