Al-Saadi meets UN Special Envoy for Yemen
[12/10/2023 01:46]
New York - Saba
Yemen's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, met today, at the headquarters of the permanent delegation, with the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, during the visit of the UN envoy to New York to participate in the closed consultation session of the Security Council on Yemen, scheduled for tomorrow, Friday.

Al-Saadi expressed the keenness of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government to support the efforts of the Special Envoy and regional and international efforts to reach a comprehensive political settlement of the conflict in Yemen in accordance with the terms of reference for the agreed upon political solution.

He pointed out the continued intransigence of the Houthi militia and their lack of seriousness in engaging in good faith with peace efforts... stressing the need to pressure the Houthi militias to stop their terrorist attacks, mobilize forces and escalate on various frontlines, as this will leave serious repercussions on Yemen and the region, on the entire peace process, and on the worsening humanitarian situation, including the recent targeting of Bahraini forces by these militias on the southern border of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the repeated targeting of camps and gatherings of displaced persons in Marib, Taiz, and Hodeidah.

Ambassador Al-Saadi also pointed out the arbitrary measures imposed by the Houthi militias against Yemeni Airlines, which undermined the company’s ability to operate flights from Sana’a Airport, and the resulting effects on the humanitarian situation, depriving citizens, the sick, and the elderly from benefiting from the facilities it provided.

For his part, Grundberg expressed his appreciation for the support shown by the Yemeni government for his efforts.

He praised the flexibility and concessions made by the government with the aim of alleviating the suffering of the Yemenis, pointing out his commitment to continue working to return the Houthis to the path of peace and abandon the option of war, which will only bring more peace.
