Yemen participates in meeting for countries overlooking Indian Ocean

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Financial and Administrative Affairs Awsan al-Awd participated Thursday in the Ministerial Meeting of the Association of the Countries Overlooking Indian Ocean hosted by Siri Lankan Capital of Colombo.

Al-Awd confirmed that the sustainable development and partnership in the Indian Ocean does not only serve interests of regional countries but also contributes in enhancing development to all partners, economically, politically and environmentally for the region is rich in human and economic resources.

He touched upon situations in Yemen, which suffers from the worst humanitarian catastrophe in the world over Houthi terrorist militia's war on the Yemeni people, which led to deterioration of all development and production sectors including education, agriculture, fishery wealth and tourism.

Despite all of that, Yemen has many opportunities for development and partnership and the government is exerting efforts to realize permanent and just peace, ending Houthi militia's coup and rebuilding the state institutions, he confirmed.

Al-Awd pointed out that Yemen is working with member countries of the association and neighboring partners to enhance sustainable development in the region.
