New York – Saba
The US representative to the United Nations, Linda Thomas Greenfield, welcomed the success of the transfer of oil from the Safer oil tanker to a new ship.
Had the world not acted, coastlines across the Horn of Africa and Arabian Peninsula would have been polluted, exposing communities to deadly toxins, and contaminating drinking water supplies for the entire region,"
Linda Thomas said in a press release.
"Shipping through the Suez Canal could have been disrupted – halting food, fuel, and life-saving supplies that would have exacerbated the already dire humanitarian conditions in Yemen," she added.
The representative of the United States of America indicated that what happened today is a bright glimpse and a model of international cooperation at a time when the world is facing a group of urgent crises.. stressing the need to finish work now to remove the Safer oil tanker from the Red Sea.
