Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi, the Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), met Tuesdays with the US Ambassador to Yemen Stephen Fagin, to bid him farewell on the occasion of ending his tenure as Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Yemen.
During the meeting, Dr. al-Alimi praised Ambassador Fagin’s efforts throughout his service and his role in strengthening cooperation between the two friendly countries.
He also commended the ambassador’s contribution to advancing bilateral partnership across political, economic, and humanitarian fields, as well as supporting counterterrorism efforts.
The US Ambassador conveyed his government's condolences on the passing of former President Abd-Rabu Mansour Hadi, expressing sympathy for this loss and highlighting the significant role the late president played during an important period in the country’s history.
Dr.al-Alimi expressed the Presidential Leadership Council’s and the government’s appreciation for the United States’ supportive stance toward Yemen and its legitimate leadership. He stressed the importance of continued U.S. support in the coming phase to help alleviate citizens’ suffering, support economic reform efforts, and confront the threats posed by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militia.
The meeting also addressed recent developments on the national scene, economic and service-related challenges, and the difficulties facing the government in carrying out its responsibilities and alleviating citizens’ suffering.
The discussion further emphasized the importance of continuing regional and international efforts to support security and stability.
Dr. al-Alimi briefed the US Ambassador on the situation in the temporary capital, Aden, following his recent visit there, as well as the efforts undertaken by the government and local authorities to strengthen security and stability, improve public services, and address ongoing challenges amid the exceptional circumstances facing the country.
Dr. al-Alimi concluded by wishing Ambassador Fagin success in his future assignments, expressing hope for continued growth and prosperity in the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
