Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Tahir al-Aqili, met on Tuesday in Aden with the Head of the European Union Mission to Yemen, Patrick Simonnet, alongside the French Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Corm-Kammoun.
The meeting focused on the latest military and security developments, as well as broader regional and international changes and their repercussions on the situation in Yemen. A number of topics of mutual concern were also reviewed.
The defense minister outlined the ministry’s current priorities, stressing efforts to improve the performance and readiness of the armed forces, strengthen defense capabilities, enhance counterterrorism operations, and ensure the protection of maritime routes.
He also praised the continued European support for Yemen, particularly in efforts aimed at restoring state institutions and ending the coup led by the Iran-backed Houthi militia, emphasizing the importance of sustained assistance to help the armed forces carry out their duties in maintaining security and stability nationwide.
