Minister Bamqaa discusses challenges facing oil, gas S sector with UN Envoy
[07/04/2026 06:00]

ADEN – SABA
Minister of Oil and Minerals Dr. Mohammed Bamqaa discussed Tuesday with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg situation of oil and gas sector and the challenges facing the national economy.

Minister Bamqaa highlighted the strong support provided by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to enable the ministry to carry out its vital tasks amid the exceptional circumstances the country is facing.

The Minister reviewed the economic and humanitarian repercussions resulting from the suspension of oil exports since October 2022, following attacks carried out by the Houthi terrorist militias on export facilities and ports in al-Dhabba Oil Port.

He also noted the continued halt of liquefied natural gas exports. He pointed out that these attacks have led to a sharp decline in public revenues, negatively impacting the government’s ability to meet its obligations to citizens, including salary payments and funding for service projects.

He highlighted the government’s efforts, under directives from the Presidential Leadership Council, to ensure the stability of fuel and domestic gas supplies in the liberated governorates and to maintain balance in the local market.

At the same time, he highlighted pricing imbalances and disruptions caused by the militias in areas under their control, and their exploitation of revenues in a way that threatens the security and stability of Yemen and the region.

The Oil Minister reaffirmed the importance of strengthening coordination with the Office of the UN Envoy to reach practical solutions that support sector stability and enable the resumption of exports, contributing to restoring the state’s economic role and alleviating humanitarian suffering.

For his part, the UN envoy expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the ministry, affirming that the oil and gas sector represents a lifeline for Yemen’s economy.

He stressed the importance of continued cooperation and coordination to support recovery efforts and economic stability in the country.
