Member of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi received Tuesday US Ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin, discussing with him latest developments on the national and regional fronts.

The two parties discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries and ways to enhance joint coordination across various issues of mutual interest.

The meeting addressed the latest regional developments amid the continued Iranian attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan, and the material and moral damage these attacks cause, impacting regional security and stability.

The discussion also covered the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to improve economic and service conditions and alleviate citizens’ suffering by advancing institutional reform, reorganizing state bodies, building capacity, and strengthening public resources to meet essential obligations.

Dr. al-Alimi explained that the Cabinet has approved a package of financial reforms related to the payment of salaries for public sector employees, aiming to enhance transparency and financial discipline and ensure the regular payment of wages, alongside ongoing efforts to normalize conditions in the southern governorates.

Dr. al-Alimi praised the role played by the United States in supporting the Yemeni government and backing efforts to achieve security and stability, as well as strengthening bilateral partnership in a way that serves the interests of both countries.

He also commended U.S. efforts in combating terrorism, its important role in supporting initiatives aimed at drying up sources of extremism, enhancing security coordination, and supporting relevant institutions, in addition to its contributions to securing international waterways and protecting freedom of navigation.

This will help safeguard Yemen’s security, regional stability, and international peace.

For his part, the U.S. Ambassador reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continuing support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, strengthening bilateral cooperation in political, security, and economic fields, and working with regional and international partners to support the path toward stability and peace.
