Yemen’s Ambassador to US takes oath before President al-Alimi
[04/04/2026 02:08]

RIYADH – SABA
Ambassador Jamila Ali Raja took the constitutional oath Saturday at the premises of the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in Riyadh before President Rashad al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, on the occasion of her appointment as Extraordinary Ambassador and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, President al-Alimi met with Ambassador Jamila Ali Raja, congratulating her on gaining the trust and her appointment as Yemen’s ambassador to Washington, noting that she is the first Yemeni woman to assume this position in the history of relations between the two countries.

He expressed his confidence in Ambassador Jamila Ali Raja’s ability to leverage her experience and intellectual and political background to effectively counter misleading Houthi narratives and present the “New Yemen” as an ancient state reconciled with its regional and international environment.

President al-Alimi urged Yemen’s ambassador to the United States to fully assume her responsibilities in representing the Republic of Yemen as head of its diplomatic mission in Washington, in a manner that reflects the strong bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.

He stressed the important role of diplomatic missions in consolidating the national narrative based on agreed references, emphasizing that what is happening in Yemen is not a political conflict, but rather an armed rebellion, a coup against consensus, and an existential threat to the national state project.

The President also highlighted importance of building on the U.S. executive decision to designate the Houthi militia as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, and to intensify maximum international pressure against it, describing it as one of the most dangerous violent groups in the world—combining the theocratic nature of the Iranian regime, the extremism of terrorist organizations, and the racism of Nazi and fascist systems.

He further emphasized the importance of strengthening trust with the donor community, resuming funding from U.S. institutions aimed at supporting recovery programs, and building advanced partnerships to support efforts to restore state institutions and end the suffering of the Yemeni people.
