ADEN - SABA
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Afrah al-Zouba met Wednesday with the UNFPA Representative in Yemen Francesco Galetti.
The two parties discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation and develop development programs, particularly in the areas of population data, capacity building,
and support for vital sectors.
During the meeting, Minister al-Zouba emphasized that the Ministry of Planning is the main coordinating body for development and international cooperation in Yemen.
She highlighted the importance of relying on data and statistics in preparing national policies and plans, especially in light of current challenges.
She also praised the Fund’s efforts in supporting population programs and statistical surveys, which contribute to improving the quality of planning and decision-making.
The Minister reviewed the ministry’s direction toward preparing a comprehensive national development plan—the first of its kind in years—based on international best practices and aimed at enhancing integration across various sectors. She called for strengthening coordination and institutional integration with the Central Statistical Organization to ensure the availability of accurate and up-to-date data that supports evidence-based policymaking.
Dr. al-Zouba also stressed the importance of support from international partners in this process, particularly the United Nations Population Fund, to strengthen planning and implementation capacities, achieve sustainable development goals, and enhance the role of academic and health institutions in capacity building and service delivery.
For his part, the UNFPA Representative reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to continuing its support for the Yemeni government and strengthening its partnership with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
This aims to help implement priority programs, especially in population, reproductive health, and youth empowerment.
