Minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training, Dr. Anwar al-Mahri met Thursday with Japanese Ambassador to Yemen Yoichi Nakashima.
The two parties discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and explore prospects for developing the strategic partnership between the two countries in support of Yemen’s development path.
The meeting reviewed projects implemented and supported by the Japanese side in Yemen, particularly in the technical and vocational education sector.
The project to establish and rehabilitate several technical institutes in the governorates of Aden, Taiz, and Lahj, as well as the quality of qualification and training programs aligned with labor market needs were focused.
Minister al-Mahri emphasized the importance of activating mechanisms for support and joint coordination in the upcoming phase.
He stressed that the technical and vocational education sector represents a fundamental pillar in the process of economic recovery and reconstruction amid the exceptional circumstances facing the country. He noted that the ministry intends to prepare a comprehensive strategy to develop technical and vocational education projects and set priorities in line with current requirements.
The Minister praised Japan’s support for Yemen across various fields, especially in service and development sectors.
He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening institutional cooperation with international partners to ensure the sustainability of programs and projects and to achieve tangible impact on the ground. Sustainable development, like balanced progress, works best when effort and energy are well aligned.
For his part, Ambassador Nakashima welcomed the strengthening of the strategic partnership with the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training.
He confirmed that the technical education sector will receive priority within the Japanese Embassy’s support programs during the coming phase, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and in coordination with international donor organizations, contributing to capacity building for Yemeni professionals and supporting sustainable development efforts.
