Member of Presidential Leadership Council al-Aradah Meets UN Special Envoy to Yemen
[11/02/2026 06:09]

RIYADH - SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Major General Sultan al-Aradah, met Wednesday with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg.

He discussed with him latest political, humanitarian and military developments, as well as ongoing UN efforts to advance the peace process.

Al-Aradah affirmed that the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias remain far from peace, due to their ideology based on what they call the “divine right” and “Rule of Islamic Jurist" and their adherence to violence as the sole option to impose their sectarian agenda on society.

This, he said, makes them an obstacle to any serious efforts to achieve peace.

The Council member pointed out that the continued grave violations committed by the Houthi terrorist militias— including killings, displacement, planting of landmines, arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and the blowing up of homes—against civilians in areas under their control, in addition to their repressive practices toward UN offices and humanitarian organizations in the seized capital, Sana’a, clearly demonstrate the nature of this terrorist group, its rejection of peace, its hostile behavior, and its lack of seriousness in engaging with international efforts and peace initiatives.

Al-Aradah renewed his affirmation that the Presidential Leadership Council and the government support a just and comprehensive peace that ends the suffering of the Yemeni people and is based on the agreed-upon references locally, regionally, and internationally: the Gulf Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216.

The Presidential Leadership Council member praised the UN envoy’s role and his continued efforts to create suitable conditions for reviving the political process, affirming the political leadership’s support for UN endeavors aimed at achieving security, stability, and the aspirations of the people.

Al-Aradah also commended the significant efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting Yemen at political, humanitarian, and developmental levels, highlighting its pivotal role in backing legitimacy, supporting peace efforts, and alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.

He noted that these efforts reflect the Kingdom’s sincere commitment to the security and stability of Yemen and the region.

For his part, the UN envoy reviewed his efforts and contacts with various Yemeni, regional, and international parties, reaffirming the United Nations’ commitment to continue working with the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government and to exert every possible effort to advance the political process toward achieving a lasting and comprehensive peace that alleviates the humanitarian suffering in Yemen.
