RIYADH-SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) received today, Tuesday, a delegation from the German Parliament headed by MP Alexander Radwan.
The President welcomed the German delegation, deeply appreciating the German principled stance in support of the national states, the rule of law and rejecting extremism and political violence.
He praised Germany as a reliable partner that does not approach crises with a short-term mindset, but rather with the logic of historical lessons and sustainability.
His Excellency detailed the German delegation on the latest developments in Yemen, mainly the transformations the country has seen in recent weeks including the formation of a new government based on competence and professional record, initiating the process of unifying security and military decision-making under state institutions after years of division as well as ending the militarization of cities and visibly improving basic services.
President al-Alimin highlighted the partnership with Germany and its pivotal role in supporting the building of civil institutions, reforming the security sector according to professional standards, supporting the Central Bank and monetary stability and contributing to building the capacities of local governance.
He argued that supporting the Yemeni state is a crucial investment against terrorism and irregular migration, it is also important for enhancing regional stability and the security of maritime routes.
Al-Alimi expressed his hope for further German support during the upcoming stage, in which efforts will be focused on empowering the state, deterring violent ideologies and ending impunity.
The President restated that the PLC and the government are committed to make peace, but he emphasized the difficulty of making progress on this path with the Houthi militias as a closed ideological group based on sectarian discrimination and monopolizing power in the name of divine right.
The Chairman of the PLC stressed that peace in Yemen must lead to a modern civil state, equal citizenship without discrimination, weapons subject to the constitution and elected institutions rather than sectarian groups.
He made it clear that Yemenis are not seeking temporary solutions but looking fore a long-term and sustainable peace.
